Car accidents highest in October and November

Many car drivers fail to adjust from ‘summer driving mode’ and this is a key factor in the 15 percent leap in road accidents during October and November.

The first heavy rain of the autumn combines with leaf fall and greasy road surfaces to create treacherous conditions. Stopping distances on wet and slippery roads can be double those of dry – so a car travelling at 40mph will need up to 72 metres to come to a stop.

Based on previous years, Car Magic expects 15% more accidents in October compared to the monthly average for (Apr-Sept) with an increase of over 20% from August. During the same time period, the Department for Transport reported a 14 % rise in car crash fatalities on UK roads.

Here at Car Magic we find October and November are always one of our busiest times of the year, and we urge you to slow down and keep your distance when roads are wet or covered in leaves.
