This week we had a Jaguar XK8 in our car body repair workshop with brick damage to the offside rear panel. Here is the feedback from our customer on the service Car Magic provided.

There is a new “trend” for insurance companies to insist that damaged vehicles are taken only to an insurance approved repairers, no matter how inconvenient or far away. In some instances drivers have been forced to take their car tens of miles away to a repair centre unknown to the owner of the damaged vehicle and preventing him or her having the vehicle repaired at a garage of their choice.

At Car Magic we are an independent repairer and believe consumers need to know that they DO have a choice. Insurance companies should end their unethical market practices and stop treating motorists unfairly by diverting motorists away from the repairer they choose to the insurance company’s “preferred repairer”.
Some insurers are now:
- quoting for repairs from photographs instead of personally inspecting the damaged vehicle;
- pressurising “preferred repairers” to fix vehicles cheaply, resulting in corners being cut, substandard repairs and unsafe vehicles;
- offering cash settlements to motorists that do not cover the full cost of repairs.

At Car Magic we are independent. Many insurance companies will try to direct claims to their recommended repairers, as they have negotiated low cost labour repair agreements with their repair network. This may compromise quality.
It is your right to have your car repaired by the repairer of your choice. Your rights were confirmed by the OFT (Office of Fair Trading) directive issued in 1993.
