Car accidents highest in October and November

Many car drivers fail to adjust from ‘summer driving mode’ and this is a key factor in the 15 percent leap in road accidents during October and November.

The first heavy rain of the autumn combines with leaf fall and greasy road surfaces to create treacherous conditions. Stopping distances on wet and slippery roads can be double those of dry – so a car travelling at 40mph will need up to 72 metres to come to a stop.
