Winter driving advice – if you have an accident call Car Magic on 01442 864022

The current bad weather causes a wide range of problems for road users. In order to minimise accident risk, drivers need to adapt their driving to the road conditions.

A slippery road surface and limited visibility and make winter driving hazardous. If you can’t clearly see the road reduce your speed so that you can stop within the distance that is visible.

Road surfaces are often covered in patches of frost and ice. Isolated spots and some slopes will remain icy when the other parts have thawed. Anticipate where these may be and slow down, if you drive too fast on a slippery or wet road surface your tyre grip will be reduced and you increase the the risk of skidding.  Remember – it is better to arrive a little later than not at all!

Smooth control also makes winter driving safer. Plan driving actions early, with smooth braking, steering and gear changes so as not to affect the grip of your tyres on the road surface.
