Classic cars at Car Magic
Whether it’s a veteran, vintage, or post-vintage, there is no definitive answer for the age when a car is considered a classic. 40-year-old vehicles are not required to pay VED (Vehicle Excise Duty). This is sometimes an indicator of a car’s age and notoriety. However, cars from 25 years old or older are also considered to be ‘classic cars’ in most circles. A veteran car is a classic car that was made before WWI. A vintage car usually refers to cars made before 1930 and post-vintage is those made between 1930 and 1945. What do you consider a classic?
Classic cars at Car Magic
Pictured outside the Car Magic workshop in Chesham, here are three British classic cars. On the left we have a 1980 Triumph TR8 Grinnall, then in the middle is MGB GT from 1978. Finally check out the newest of the group, the 1999 MGF.
The RAC.co.uk shares some of the factors when it comes to defining a car as a classic, though it is largely subjective.
- Nostalgia – Fond memories of childhood from a bygone era can really resonate and form a love for a classic car. An appreciation for the time period alone certainly adds to a vehicle’s appeal. Even if you weren’t alive to see them in action.
- Design – Sometimes what’s actually under the bonnet is treated as less important than a car’s looks.
- Cultural impact – If a vehicle leaves a mark on cultures, such as in a popular film, it tends to earn classic status from this popularity alone. Examples include the Lotus Esprit S1 from The Spy Who Loved Me and the DeLorean from Back to the Future!
- Thrill of the ride – Tangible features like the thrill of the ride, the sound of the car’s engine, or simply how it feels to drive.
As well as owning and driving our own classics, we have experience in repairing classic cars such as the Triumph Spitfire alongside all the various makes and models of cars and vans we repair here at the Car Magic workshop.
