Ford Escort Mk 1 – from drab to fab!
The Ford Escort Mk 1 has been around since 1967 when it replaced the successful, long-running Ford Anglia. By June 1974 Ford had announced the completion of the two millionth Ford Escort, a milestone not reached by any Ford model outside of the US. It became successful as a rally car and in the early 1970s, the Ford team was practically unbeatable. It’s been said that the Escort’s greatest victory was in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally, driven by Finnish legend Hannu Mikkola and Swedish co-driver Gunner Palm.
At Car Magic, we are car body repair specialists, and most of the time this means working on dents and scuffs, scrapes, and dings. We love being able to repair and return your car to you as good as new and our customer reviews speak for themselves. There’s no better thrill than getting our teeth into a car like this though!
Ford Escort Mk 1 – Renovation in pictures
This Mk 1 has been an ongoing renovation project for the team. The transformation is below in pictures. Here we see the shell of the Ford Escort Mk 1 looking a little worse for wear.
The car and its new parts are ready for painting in our low-bake oven at the workshop in Chesham.
Here is the first step completed with the inside repaired and painted in this striking blue.
The outside of the Escort is then repaired and prepared for the primer.
The car is given a coat of primer before it is painted white all over.
Here the Ford Escort is painted white and given a lacquer finish with a beautiful shine.
The bonnet, doors and boot are primed and painted seperately but there’s plenty of space in our on-site oven.
Now the white Ford Escort Mk 1 is prepared for the green detailing. This process is time-consuming but creates an excellent result!
The green is added and the paper is removed carefully once dry.
The final step was to add the red stripes and the car was ready for signwriting.
We’ve got tonnes of experience with classic cars and renovations that you can find on our blog. Such as this Landrover Defender, VW Camper, and Triumph Spitfire. If you’re looking for a professional, skilled and reliable body repairer – then look no further.
