Mazda MX-5 Championship 2018-2019
Two years ago Matt Pollard embarked on his journey as a racing driver. He’d always been interested in cars but in the spring of 2018, he debuted at Brands Hatch. In his first race weekend of the Mazda MX-5 Championship, Matt started well – finishing in 7th and 4th place. However, he also found out what it’s like to take a detour on the gravel – eek!
Mazda MX-5 Championship – Highlights
As Matt’s sponsors, the team at Car Magic and Non-Fault Car Accident Repair have followed his progress closely on our blog since 2018. After his first couple of races, we transformed the Mazda MX-5 from this …
… to the car that we’ve come to know and love throughout Matt’s racing journey.
The highlights for us mostly coincide with the races where Matt has kept clear of other cars, after all, the less contact, the less damage to repair! However, sometimes those races were the most exciting to look back on. Here’s a list of what we think have been Matt’s best racing weekends so far.
Best racing weekends for Matt Pollard
Cadwell Park 2018 – A finish in 2nd place despite misty weather and an incident with the bonnet. Read more on the blog: Podium finish for Matt at Cadwell Park
Oulton Park 2018 – Halfway through the 2018 season, Matt visited Oulton Park in Cheshire and it was the first weekend that the car was in its full livery – including go faster stripes! After a run-in with the tyre wall, Matt had to contend with heavy rain and still finished in third overall. Read in full: Podium spot for the Mazda MX-5, despite torrential rain!
Rockingham Speedway 2018 – Motorsport fans will know that after 17 years of racing, Rockingham Speedway closed in 2018. It’s a huge shame for the track but also for Matt who had his best race of the season there in 2018. Read: Best race of the season at Rockingham over on our Motorsport blog.
Rookie of the Year 2018 – The first season ended on a high for Matt, who was awarded ‘Rookie of the Year’ at the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Read the blog: End of the season for BRSCC Mazda
Pembrey Circuit 2019 – Considered the most challenging track in the UK. Pembrey has high-speed corners and a circuit that racks up 1.46 miles per lap. The Clubmans Circuit (one of two you can drive) has a new S-bend section that adds a tight and technical element to the racing. Read in full: Pembrey Circuit – Matt finishes in 11th!
Oulton Park 2019 – In November, Matt finished the Mazda MX-5 Championship at Oulton Park in Cheshire. Despite a dangerous slide he regained composure and finished the weekend in sixth position. See the hair-raising moment for yourself on the blog: Oulton Park, a success for our racing driver Matt!

At Car Magic and Non Fault Car Accident Repair we’ve enjoyed watching Matt grow as he takes on more challenges with his Mazda MX-5. His second year in competitive racing saw him compete in A races throughout the season and finish in 8th in the overall championship. Well done Matt! We’re pleased to announce that we will continue to look after the car body repairs for Matt as his sponsors. This will be his third year of racing in the BRSCC Mazda MX-5 Championship.
